Grifola frondosa is a polypore mushroom that grows at the base of trees, particularly oaks. Also known as hen-of-the-woods, maitake, ram's head or sheep's head. Like other medicinal mushrooms, it contains a complex sugar called beta-glucan. In laboratory and human studies, maitake extract was able to stimulate various cells and factors in the immune system. Delicious grilled or sauteed. Very delicate in texture and flavor. A favorite among our employees!
